Frequently Asked Questions

How can I apply for the Student Energy Summit 2023?

  • The deadline to apply for the summit is now passed. Applications are closed.

Is there a fee to register for the summit? If so, how much is it?

  • We are excited to be able to partially fund all delegates with a 1,000 USD scholarship to be automatically applied for all delegates. See our delegate registration guidelines for more information on what this covers. All delegates will still be required to complete the 50 USD registration fee to secure their spot at SES 2023.

Will travel and accommodation be provided for delegates?

  • Accommodation is covered for all delegates under the 1,000 USD scholarship.

  • Delegates were asked to indicate during the application process whether you would require full funding (including visa fees and flights) to attend SES 2023. Some delegates will be fully funded based on financial need and contacted directly. However, funding is limited so we highly encourage you to self-fundraise to cover your own travel costs, including your flights to the UAE and visa. Are there any eligibility requirements to attend the summit?

  • The summit is an opportunity for the voices of youth to be heard. The applicant must either be a student, early professional who was recently a student (i.e., graduated in the past 3 years), or a young person interested in the energy transition between the ages of 18-30 to attend.

Is there a limit on the number of delegates who can attend from each country?

  • There is no set limit on the number of delegates who can attend from each country. Nevertheless, one of our missions as an international student-led summit is to promote diversity and unite delegates from over 100 countries. This will be taken into account when reviewing the applications.

Can I apply to be a speaker or presenter at the summit?

  • The Student Energy Summit will incorporate youth specific panels. The opportunities to be a speaker or a presenter will be shared accordingly in times leading up to the summit.

Are there any opportunities for networking or meeting with energy sector leaders at the summit?

  • The Student Energy Summit is designed to allow delegates to connect with world energy leaders. Delegates will have the opportunity to attend networking events and participate in workshops facilitated by energy leaders.  Apart from networking lunches, there will also be fairs where participants will be able to meet and greet representatives from energy-related organizations and companies.

What kind of engagement activities can I expect at the summit?

  • Throughout the programming of the summit, there will be opportunities for Q&A and engagement with industry leaders. There will also be upskilling sessions to gain more practical skills for youth leaders in the energy sector. Additionally, delegates will have the opportunity to join an innovation jam where participants pitch a solution to an energy-related problem.

Am I expected to apply for my visa to the UAE on my own, or will Student Energy help me out with that?

  • Each delegate will be responsible for applying for their visa. However, the Student Energy Summit team will provide support letters throughout the process by providing the appropriate documentation.

Can I attend COP28 if I come to the UAE to attend SES?

  • SES 2023 is taking place on the margins of COP28, which will be taking place in Dubai. Being a delegate for SES2023 does not guarantee access to COP28. Nevertheless, there will be a few selected delegates that will have the opportunity to attend COP28 depending on the interactions with the different SES activities. More details will be communicated later on.

What is the summit schedule like?

  • There are three sub-themes for the summit: reimagining communities for day 1, reimagining industries and cities for day 2, and reimagining progress for day 3. In each of the days, half of the day will be dedicated to high-level plenary sessions while the other half will be mostly breakout sessions and workshops. There will also be networking opportunities intertwined throughout the day.
