Beniamin Strzelecki

Beniamin Stzelecki is a senior and a Civil Engineering student. He is interested in the field of system dynamics and the implications of the transition to a net zero energy system on the economy and society. In the past, he worked as a research assistant on projects related to modelling future energy systems, with a focus on identifying factors that enable the deployment of renewable power generation.

Mira Aljallaf
Co-Chair
Mira Aljallaf is a fourth-year Mechanical Engineering Student. Her interests expand to renewable energy and the development of new innovative solutions for the energy crisis. Currently, she is working on a portable desalination plant that would be powered by solar energy, to secure clean fresh water in remote areas. The initiation of the Student Interest Group called Taaqa (Arabic for Energy) by Mira and a couple of classmates, increased her interest in the energy sector and being part of the Student Energy Summit will be an opportunity to further push for a change in the energy sector and engage with youth from different backgrounds about the next steps of the energy field.

Cristina Mendez

Ana Cristina Zamitiz Mendez is currently pursuing a major in Political Science and Legal Studies, minoring in Economics and Peace Studies at NYUAD. She is passionate about international relations, volunteering and climate change.
Cristina is an energetic soul always looking to learn new things and contribute to her surroundings. She has worked in multiple volunteering organizations where she found her passion in climate change response. She is an activist interested in the energy transition. In SES2023 Cristina is looking to have a bigger impact on youth and foster true advocacy in young people to change the world into a more sustainable mindset.

Hind Alsamt

Hind Alsamt is a third-year Economics student. She is interested in monetary economics and sustainable finance. Her interest in energy comes from the belief that it is a global issue that needs to be looked at and understood through various lenses in order to be solved. She is interested in the socio-economic implications of the energy transition and achieving net zero. She joined Student Energy to create a platform that would raise awareness about the climate crisis and bring people together to share ideas and different perspectives on the transition to sustainability.

Avi Bisht
Vice Chair of Logistics
Avishek Bisht is a sophomore student from Nepal studying Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. He is interested in energy-efficient infrastructure and sustainable energy practices. His interest in energy stems mostly from his experience of power outages lasting more than 10 hours a day while living in his home country. He has been a part of the Student Energy Chapter at NYUAD since its inception. As an Engineer with a passion for problem-solving, he wants to work on advancing technology so that energy resources can be properly utilized. He is intrigued by the idea of having youths’ voices on critical energy issues which is what brought him to the Student Energy Summit.

Lydia Sanz Lozano

Lydia Sanz Lozano is a second year Economics and Political Science student at New York University Abu Dhabi. She is interested in researching the economic and political benefits of renewable energy, in particular those of the UAE. She enjoys advocating for a clean and fair green energy transition that involves youth voices and ensures proactive collaboration. Previously, Lydia has been a key speaker and moderator at international youth energy events in partnership with IRENA’s Youth Forums/Talks, Masdar’s Future Sustainability Leaders, Microsoft and RES4Africa.

Erica Wu
Co-Vice Chair of Programming
Erica Wu is an Interactive Media and Social Research and Public Policy student at New York University Abu Dhabi. With her passion for sustainability, she is interested in how to amplify solutions related to sustainable energy and enhance the connection with nature to ensure the well-being of lives on Earth. She is actively working on creating a reason for hope in the climate crisis with a focus on regeneration. She has contributed towards building communities and empowering youth in NYUAD, Taiwan, and Argentina among youth to take climate action. As part of Student Energy, she hopes to equip youth around the world with tools to better navigate the future toward sustainable energy.

Hatim Rehmanjee

Hatim Rehmanjee is a Computer Science and economics student at NYU Abu Dhabi. He is interested in renewable energy, especially nuclear fusion, and is passionate about finding ways to implement clean and efficient energy systems in developing countries. Mawadda Abdan is a Civil Engineering student at New York University Abu Dhabi. She is interested in sustainable urban development and sustainable building materials. Hoor Ahli is a freshman majoring in Social Research and Public Policy at New York University Abu Dhabi. She is interested in environmental advocacy and climate education. Her interest in energy comes from the belief in the importance of a green and just global energy recovery and that through creating a collective endeavour this would be achievable. Through this summit she aims to increase the awareness of different ways youth can engage in this field and empower youth to share their perspective and vision on a sustainable energy transition.

Julie Beaulieu is a Social Research and Public Policy student at New York University Abu Dhabi. She is passionate about food security, women’s empowerment, and climate action. Her engagement in the field of energy comes from her interest in international relations and her belief that the world has to shift from using depletable and polluting natural resources to sustainable ones. However, no country can do it alone, and international cooperation is essential. Batool Al Tameemi is a freshman at NYUAD, pursuing a degree in Computer Science and Interactive Media. Along with her technical pursuits, Batool is also an accomplished artist, having participated in over 25 local and global art exhibitions.
